Introducing Gerona Estate, a Colombian coffee farm nestled in the picturesque hills of Magdalena. With over 23 years of dedication, Jose del Carmen Reatiga Jaimes, the passionate coffee farmer, has nurtured this 16-hectare gem at an elevation of 1,100 meters above sea level.
Gerona Estate boasts 11 hectares of meticulously cultivated coffee plants, comprising 45,000 trees of Castillo and Colombia varieties. Harvested during the second semester, the cherries are processed using natural and honey methods, resulting in exceptional flavor profiles.
Jose, a coffee aficionado since childhood, considers coffee cultivation an integral part of his life's journey. With unwavering commitment, he acquired the farm through hard work and dedication, following in his father's footsteps.
After carefully handpicking the cherries, they undergo a meticulous process. The cherries are pulped, fermented for two days, and then washed before the beans are sun-dried. The remaining pulp is ingeniously utilized as a natural fertilizer for the crops and gardens.
Gerona Estate prioritizes sustainability and environmentally friendly practices. Chemical-free farming, manual weed removal, and responsible water management are just some of the initiatives that preserve the farm's natural harmony.
Not only does Gerona Estate nurture the land, but it also supports the local community. Employing 12 individuals, the farm actively engages in activities such as road cleaning and community lighting, fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation.
